When
you go to rent a car, you will probably be offered an option to get rental car
insurance. Ideally you don’t legally need car insurance if you already have
your own insurance policy. A non-owned policy if you don’t have your own car
can come in handy although it mostly depends on your situation. You can also
consult a Fred Loya Insurance agent in this regard.
Rental
auto insurance that covers basic liability requirements for the state or
territory you’re visiting is usually pretty cheap. Whatever state you are
visiting the factors that should affect your decision to buy the rental car
insurance are more or less the same. The Fred Loya Insurance agent also told
that the rental car insurance rates aren’t typically high but they are a
substantial income source for rental car agencies.
Since
you would need to be covered to the extent of the minimum liability
requirements of the state you are travelling in but even if you have minimum
liability coverage it won’t protect the car you’re driving unless you have
additional protection. So this Fred Loya Insurance agent also told that you
should be sure of what kind of rental insurance you want.

I don't think a rental car insurance policy will help. I find it a complete waste of money and never planned to buy it. But after reading this article I am somehow convinced with all the reasons that you have posted in this article.
